A Stella performance.....

Well hello, good evening ,and welcome Judges
This week I am having a little flurry of inspiration of blog subjects with going over the archives of the past weeks fashion news. It seems the world as a whole is favouring the good old days and nostalgia is rife within the Spring/Summer collections.
One of my favourites and I know your favourites of the moment is the fashion 'Dahling' Stella McCartney who seems at the moment to not be able to put a Platform wedge wrong, not only did she recently have an original though shall we say almost flash mob fashion show at London. This was to premiere her new eveningwear collection to the world. Stella hosted a sophisticated soiree with close family and friends and of course the obligatory Supermodels ( whom do seem to fall into the circle of friends). The latter of the guests were made to earn their scran and after dessert was cleared away the tone of the evening changed and the waiting staff along with the supermodels of yesteryear and today started to get their groove on. Of course this was all a choregraphed routine by the team who created the routine for Daft punks 'Around the world'.
Stella McCartney in real life is friends with the worlds most glamorous females of the moment including everyone's favourite diet chef Gwyneth Paltrow , Gymtastic Madge, All legs Diaz and that is just her bestie's . Often found slouching in rather subdued clothing McCartneys style is all that of a simple English rose transported into the fashion idea of a farce. She prefers to just chillax and gain inspiration from her past adventures and loves nothing more than a good boogie on down in her studio stroke second home in London.
McCartney is speedily gaining favour with the fashion Elite being 'a girl's girl' she designs what she would be seen dead in as she was once quoted. Here I am seeing an ever increasing demand for more feminine products and you ladies are certainly keeping me busy. Stella McCartney sunglasses this season are so far the most popular label to be seen in. You are certainly not affraid to go against this seasons advice and ditch the Stella McCartney aviators as this model in any of the colours is huge. Mind being the model that Stella sports all the time I am not surprised the quality of Stella McCartney shades are second to none being made of sustainable materials , recycled or even specially created materials to have the least impact on the earth's natural resources. See, who could have thought that you could not be stylish and make an Enviromental statement all in one.
Stella not only designs for her own label but also has a succesful colaboration with Adidas so come on ladies get into sport with Stella and rock the trend of sportschic.
So all I can say is it must be in the genes and we are heralding the birth of another McCartney British institution
So for now Judges I am off for a glass of cold nettle tea and going to munch on mung beans
Remeber if you do anythnig Keep em' peeled

Sporting qualities of the true British Gent.

Good evening all you sun drenched Judges,
Well I wish we were unforetunately it looks like the weathermen seemed to have gotten a couple of things wrong with the forecasts of late. We were promised a week of sun and of course temperatures that would rival late April in the Med. How wrong it's been... cloudy and is it just me ,or has it been rather chilly?. Mind you, I have to say the other weekend when the weather was glorious, I donned my trainers, shorts, ipod, and not to forget my Oakleys and did my first run in the open for some time.
So with the Olympics coming in August are you getting the buzz with yet, what with more of us spending a small fortune on Kit and Gym's. Local councils doing more to get people to use local facilities it seems in the past few years we Brit's are shunning a few hours a week in front of the gogglebox and the trappings of modern world to get back to some good old endorphin rich sports.
Is this because of events like the Olympics or is it just body fascisim gone mad and we are all trying to set our body's to a new fitness level?. I say, who care's for the reson we all know that doing some form of activiity that is above our normal heartrate is good for us.
One company that is taking it to the extremes in more ways than one is the company Oakley. The company began back in 1975 and has grown to be the suplier of all forms of sporting eyewear. The sports they cater for range from high adreniline sports such as motorsports, bmxing, snowboarding, and sailing. To the more sedate sports of bowling, running and not to forget that increasingly popular sport of shooting. ( One of our customers and someone who is very close to the website insists that his Oakleys have improved his shooting and with interchangeable lenses he is never with them).
Oakley began life in the garage of it's founder Jim Jannard with only $300 of backing determined to create Oakley shades the market leader and push boundaries in ways no other company had before. It took Jim 17 long years to create the O shape that pushed the company to the heady heights of success and become every sportsmans most prized piece of equipment.
Today Oakley supplies not only Oakley sunglasses, Oakley Eyewear but also clothing making the company one of the best and biggest sporting brands in the world. Oakley sponsor major sporting events and sports stars alike, this year they are sponsoring the US team for the Olympics and many other countries alike.
So come on Judges lets get the heartrates up and get pumping that tarmac
Keep em peeled for the torch and those medals and all that is left for me to say is good luck to the whole of the British Olympic squad and keep the gold for us .
And hey, you never know cash for gold may ask you for their next ad!
Regards The Judge

Giorgio Armani, king of cool.

Hello fellow Judges,
I hope this finds you all well and good on this fantastically chilled Sunday afternoon or whenever you are reading this. Well the sun is rather weak and supposedly for the next two weeks it is going to get scorchio ! Mind saying that the weathermen don’t seem to be able to predict very much these days, we can but hope so we can don our spring wardrobes and be ever hopeful.
So the final collections of sunglasses have finally made it from Italy to be in my presence ,what a collection it is !. The true Godfather of Italian cool , the epitome of simple chic , true class and the master of the understated. If you have no idea of whom I speak of then for the past 40 years you have been living under a rock. I speak of none other than my style hero Giorgio Armani.
Last year the godfather of cool celebrated a mere 40 years dominating fashions heady heights at the top of the pecking order. Armani himself lives by simple rules create nothing you would not dream of being seen in or have use of, an ethos going back to the arts and crafts movement function meets form. Armani is above all the fuss and furore that go in to creating shows to showcase the clothes most designers produce. Armani rules in simplicity with his collections making them sure fire hit’s with people who regard quality of design over flash in the pan fashions.
Armani’s style is classic and his colour palette matches working heavily with monochromes, natural hues and colours that are always classically led. Armani does not follow trends but has created an uber empire including fragrance, diffusion lines and home wear not to mention his hotel chain that he designed himself to mark his 40th birthday in fashion last year. When most 74 year olds have long retired Armani still controls every aspect of his business portfolio himself and runs a very tight ship. An empire that many designers would have lost if it was not for the passion for quality that drives the giant to keep on creating the items of beauty that each season brings.
So how is it possible to keep on trend whilst being classic simple Armani sunglasses are the answer to all our prayers this season with his twist on the Armani eyewear , with its leather bridge on the nose giving them a new twist. Shapes in the Armani Shades take influence from the 30’s and I personally will be rocking the rounded tortoiseshell to make me look even more like Norman wisdom my comedy hero.
Well Judge’s for now I am off to cook my Sunday lunch
Keep em peeled

Brothers in arms....legs...and sunglasses!

Good afternoon Judges,
Well it's been a little over a couple weeks since I promised a regular men's blog and as to our word this is it. So fellow Judges what is new with you ? Here at http://www.sendoptics.com/bottega-venata.html have been so busy with everything going in the shop and on line. I have added our new babies to the Judges stable ,those being http://www.sendoptics.com/balenciaga.html and the high luxe http://www.sendoptics.com/bottega-venata.html both attracting comments and praise so thanks so much for letting us know your thoughts on these, please continue to let us know your thoughts on the site and the collections and if you think I need to add anything drop me a line. Come on you know you love to tell me your thoughts as much as I love to hear them.
So Gent's as promised in this blog we are dedicating to you savvy dandies who are wanting to know the Judges thoughts on this Spring Summers trends. Read on..... We have recently launched the New Prada linear rossa collection, Prada have chosen world champion British boxing star Amir khan to be the face of the collection to show the strength and youthful approach to these classic high performance sunglasses. (add collection tag)
So what look will you gents be sporting this Season personally I am thinking of the wider legged trouser so much freer and if the sun does come out it's good to have a bit of air circulating isn't it. Trousers in general will still remain slim fitting at the base of the leg but becoming wider around the thighs. Think Downton Abbey, Upstairs Downstairs and not forgetting the Woman in Black... Nostalgia is as big for men this season as it is for women. (add sunglasses type here)
The biggest colour story that is happening this season for you men is a favourite safe hold , whether it is indigo, cobalt, Wedgwood, sky or pastel blue is not only the colour of the waters we are all dreaming of this summer or the sky's we have had a crafty peak at. Blue is not a mood it is the colour of peace and style. Don't just wear it as a single block wear it separate shades or with other colors of the moment. Bottega Venatta has rocked the use of blue for it's menswear spring/summer collection 2012.
With Gucci life become a fail safe fashion moment of plaid mayhem that of course worked so well in it's monochrome, vision of a summer classically tailored collection will suit all body shapes and most of all add that safe classic twist to a fresh mature look that is still bang on trend. Go Gucci go ........ Just add a preppy twist with a bow tie loafers and Gucci sunglasses
Bah humbug no I have not lost it but the barber set quartet are rocking those stripes so well i have decided to rock it myself ... not just Breton striped tops but the wider candy stripes or even convict stripes .... black or white or blue and white ... go on give it a go ( add sunglasses here and comment) The best thing about stripes are the candy stripes think a stick of humbug rock and back to the days when i strolled down the prom.
Last but not least is the dressier side of menswear this season fabrics that are iridescent in high luxe finishes, satin silks and of course the ever present tonic, don't go rocking the sweaty look sheen is the classy look fine velvet blazers are the way to dress at night.
Monochrome men is still with us too stay but this year try rocking the look with a colour block , blue and black are a good way to bring the two together . Prep it up style guru's and rock the looks with the Judge. One final piece of advice Just choose one or two key pieces and invest in your accessories. With this spring summer think outside your usual safety zones try new things. Come on sod the judgement of others there is only so much time left until we celebrate the 21 of December......
For now all I am off to do a spot of shopping to go with my new sunglasses ( just one of the perks of the job )
Keep em peeled and enjoy the sun and stay safe

And we look to the stars and see Crystal castles in the air...

And we look to the stars and see Crystal castles in the air

Well Hello Judge’s!
I hope you are all well and recovered from all the excitement of the Oscar’s. No surprising with ‘The Artist’ trouncing all its competitors to win a whopping five of the Golden devils.
The Artist is a real celebration of the golden era of Hollywood. The outfits the staging and of course the glamour that encapsulated the by gone days, and also probably helped to create celebrity into the entities or gods that they are today (obviously with more class and less need to be on reality programmes)
Well here are at http://www.sendoptics.com/  we have been so busy with all the new stock flying through the door we have been neglecting some of the stars of last year.  So without further ado allow me to introduce a glamorous label. The label really does need no formal introduction.
Of course the title of this blog should help a little if you have no clue, Ok its Swarovski that’s right the company that is famous for paperweights and ornaments actually is now the largest crystal company in the world, they are responsible for supplying accessories and components to most of the biggest Design houses in the world. Collaborating with some of the top worlds top musical talents to create spectacular stage costumes, Madonna, Elton John  (it’s not just on his glasses he likes to sparkle either) , The black eyed peas , Beyonce. Not to mention film collaborations.
The wonder that is Swarovski  is not a new company it began life in 1892 when Daniel Swarovski  developed a machine that created a finer detailed crystal than the traditional hand-crafted methods. The company has had a firm foot on the fashion ladder and in 1975 the company developed the hot fix method that has become the biggest selling non essential fashion component.
This year couture and fashion have been in the collections of both ready to wear and couture sticking two fingers up to the austerity measures governments have forced upon us and festooned fabrics and of course accessories with the elements collection to add that glamour factor and cheer us all up a bit.
Last year was the first year we stocked the Swarovski  range of sunglasses and boy did it pay off....our walk in customers loved it, we heavily featured the range in our Christmas window with people coming to buy for the party season, and on-line you Judges went sparkle mad.
So for this time Judges keep em peeled and if you are feeling a little plain and ordinary look to the stars and think Swarovski

Well I am off to don a pair of crystal shades and listen to some deep purple and go back to the 70’s

And we look to the stars and see Crystal castles in the air...

Gucci, Gucci, Coupe....

Hello fellow Judges,
I hope you are all well and rested. We here at http://www.sendoptics.com/ are finally recovered from keeping abreast of all the latest fashion news and also fashion weeks. We enjoyed London for its usual cutting edge style that keeps Brittania ruling those waves, New York for its Modern corporate look, Paris for its Luxury two fingers up to the economic backlash and my personal favourite was Milan.
Italians do, do it better that is for sure the Milan fashion week has two faces these are Saturday night favourites Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, and the breathtaking Miu Miu collection which was the usual riot of color and print. The collection would of made many don there sunglasses. The young, fashion, on trend and forward thinking style mobs loved all of these labels collections. It was for Milan a truly exciting time and forgetting like other fashion packs the depressing economic cut backs.

As polar opposites to these you have the mature grown up power pack of Milan that still dominate the fashion magazines with their multiple lines and even hotels. Labels that helped shape the Italian look from back in the seventies include Giorgio Armani, Prada and of course the label on everyone's lips at the moment Gucci. The label saw itself back to it's true self simple shapes, effortless glamour, and a massive smattering of graphic block prints how could they have failed.

At http://www.sendoptics.com/Gucci.html the usual styles of aviator, big styles and angular sunglasses rule the collection and update any wardrobe to look like a gucci ambassador for style. Color is a massive inclusion to the collection this time with berry and nudes and lashings of Platinum and gold.

We love the fantastic reinvention of the collection and the subtler logo still present but not as prominent the famous Interlocking G

So you as the Jury it is upto you to let us know what you think of the new Gucci collection in relation to the other wonders we have to offer.

Have a great couple of days, until next time Keep on judging and keep em peeled

10 things about sunglasses and how they may protect your eyes.

10 things about sunglasses and how they may save your sight.

Well welcome back!
We hope March is treating you to some sun as it is us, all be it struggling through. Let’s hope the mad March Hares bring us some fantastic rays to bring our spirits back and the vitamin d back into our system( it’s true sunshine does make us feel more positive)
Well at www.sendoptics.com are busy getting ready for easter with many of our actual in store customers choosing to purchase sunglasses or optics as a present. We never really considered this until one of elderly patient’s came in and said their wife was undergoing treatment for cataracts and he had been told by the specialist she was under, that in not any circumstances to go out in the day unless she had a pair of UVA/B protected sunglasses.
Sunglasses whatever you use them for these days are a staple whether it like above, be a medical reason, fashion or for more specialist reasons. So we at www.sendoptics.com would love to hear why you wear yours.
We Judges have always loved sunglasses, for instance in ancient China it is recorded that the high court judges used to oversee proceedings through crystal sunglasses so as to avoid sway on the jury.
Inuits were among the first people to use a form of sunglasses which was an ivory ( no doubt whalebone) figure eight shaped piece. This had a narrow slit and blocked much of the bright sun rays but offered no further protection.
In the mid 1800’s it was research into lens colour and certain health conditions that made further advances. After this research people with Syphilis were prescribed amber coloured lenses as with the condition they became sensitive to changes in light. ( sunglasses for sexual health whatever next).
Research has also began in the late 20 th century into how lens colour effects learning and behaviour. Dyslexics often are prescribed coloured lenses to help with the condition.
It was the 1920’s when an American created the first line of mass produced sunglasses, it was not until 1936 that the first pairs of polarized sunglasses were made available. Jump to the 1940’s and look on any film of beach life you will notice that the general public and of course movie stars of the time were not seen with sunglasses.
Sunglasses as well as being for the uber stylish are often prescribed for various eye conditions including snow blindness, cataracts and forms of eye cancer(insert anymore you can think)
The best way to purchase sunglasses is through a person or company such as an optician - Judges opticians in Leicester or an on line retailer where you can gain advice from an optician or optometrist if needed - www.sendoptics.com We always make sure the sunglasses fit the customers need for style comfort and need and online we provide a full years manufacturers guarantee.
As well as being popular with stars, sunglasses have become popular with poker players. This is so it can help to hide reactions and to intimidate opponents. Tournament players are now being sponsored by some big names.
Did you know that the colour of lenses can often have great effect on the wearer as well as the style.
Gray and green lenses are neutral because they maintain true colors.
Brown lenses cause some change t colour though they also increase contrast.
Turquoise lenses are good for medium and high light conditions, because they are good at enhancing contrast, but don’t cause significant color change.
Orange and yellow lenses increase both contrast and depth perception. They also increase color variation. Yellow lenses are used by pilots, hunter, shooters for their contrast enhancement and width perception properties.
Blue or purple lenses are purely cosmetic( oh you style junkies you)
Finally one thing you all should know is that regardless of summer or winter sun if we start to wear tinted glasses or sunglasses from a young age we can prevent damage and early ageing of the eyes.
We hope you found this little fact based blog of interest and we do hope you keep them peeled and protected. Think sunglasses think www.sendoptics.com

Balenciaga, la, la, la,

Bonjour Mes Judges

We are going all Gallic on today's next installment of the Judges blog, here at http://www.sendoptics.com/. So you are probably wondering why we are all sat in our Breton stripes, Beret's and drinking red wine. Well what's new with you ? with us here at Judges opticians in store we are very excited to finally be able to tell you of the first of our new ranges ....... Are you ready for this... we are proud to present the latest collection of Balenciaga Sunglasses.

So some of you may not be overly familiar with the Name Balenciaga. So here at http://www.sendoptics.com/ we are going to do a little getting to know you session to bring you upto speed.

Balnciaga is the is known as a French fashion house although the house now resides in Paris it actually began life in Spain or to be exact the Basque region of Spain. The house was founded by Cristobal Balenciaga in 1914 and Spanish Royalty were massive fans of his designs. When Balenciaga was forced to close his stores in Spain due to the Spanish revolution he moved over to Paris and quickly grew an even larger cult following with the fashion press quickly calling him a revolutionary in a dreary world.

The obvious comparisons quickly began with Christian Dior but in all aspects Balenciaga was so much further ahead than Dior with his design concepts and changing the shape of the way women dressed. In the postwar years he designed shapes that were so far away from what women had been used to wearing for so long and his designs were sculptured around the form.

Balenciaga basically has a history of going against the grain, creating trends not following in the shaadows like so many designers these days. Balenciaga today is a label that is reveered by the art scene and celebrity alike. Nicholas Gesquiere is in charge of the label these days and takes inspiration from the archives along with contemporary visions creating a youthful vibe mixed with effortless pieces.

You may have seen that Balenciaga launched their first perfume last year in time for Christmas, only to become the most popular scent of the year. Balenciaga has stores all over the world and opened it's first accessories store in where else, Las Vegas .... well if you must open one, you may as well go where the chips are flying high. So for what about the sunglasses i hear you chomping at the bit mes amis?. Balenciaga have plundered there accesories archives to bring you a vintage inspired collection of frames to suit different face shapes and of course this includes their most iconic 'cats eye'

So now all we need to do is welcome Balenciaga to the Judging panel and let us know what you think of this award winning collection.....

Keep safe

And the winner is.....

Good day my fellow Judges,

I hope you are all fine and Dandy! Looking forward to the weekend … Here at Sendoptics.com we have been busy of late, what with the Fashion shows for A/W 2012 shows, customers coming into the shop looking at the new collections of optics and sunglasses. We have lots of great comments about our selections.

Well unless you have been living on the moon or in some far off country you may not be aware that it’s that time of year! Yup you Judges its awards time; we have already had The Grammy’s, The Bafta’s, The Mobo’s and recently we have had The Brit’s. The biggest award of the film world is upon us and the star’s of the big screen have been eating lettuce and bleaching and blitzing their bikini lines. Begging and stealing from any designer that is the one to watch.

The films are the obvious stars in the Oscars and they earn massive credence to popular and more art-house films also. For the past few weeks we at Judges Opticians have in our own time been enjoying some of the films our local cinemas have on the screen.

Well the firm favourite is ‘The Artist’ set to sweep the floor at the Oscar’s with multiple wins across the board. The film had us in awe set to a backdrop of the silent film industry in the transition of changing over to ‘talkies’. The film pay’s homage to Hollywood’s glorious hey days of the glamour and glitz of the 30’s. The stars would look equally at home in today’s styles the leading man Jean Dujardin would not look out of place in Oliver peoples sunglasses. The Starlet that looks so beautiful in everything she could easily go back in time and slot straight in to the silent era with the most beautiful features and expressive faces on film would look stunning in Miu Miu .

Another hopeful is ‘The Help’ which is set against a background of the changing political landscape of America and the changing attitude toward black housemaids in the civil rights era. The Star Viola Davis who plays one of the maids is up for an Oscar for best supporting actress and we think to finish the 60’s inspired look of Prada would look great on her.

Obviously we are loving ‘Warhorse' Speilberg created a masterpiece in this film and treated the subject with a great human story alongside a backdrop of the blood and squalid conditions of the first world war. The film itself is described as an epic and is deservedly recommended for various different award categories. The owner who is a young soon to be soldier played by Jeremy Irvine would look great in Paul Smith

The British made spy drama ‘Tinker, tailor, soldier, spy’ this is made in true Brit-flick all grit and in true sharp dressed elegance. The story itself is a classic and is known as one of the best spy dramas ever. The film has one of the best British casts to be seen in many a year. The cast as a whole would look fantastic in Dior homme any of the men would look great in these.

So we will be there on Oscars night with our popcorn and fake awards to see whether our Judgement on the films that are already held in high regard win their just rewards.

Keep ‘em peeled Judges,

Looking to the US for tips on how to be cool.

We here at sendoptics.com are currently busy bees buzzing around finishing writing up the descriptions and and photographing the final lines of designer sunglasses we are going to be adding. So Judges', keep them peeled as they will be on before you know it and we are really looking forward to launching two very cutting edge brands.

So what is happening with you Judges'?. We are getting lots of feedback and are fast acting upon it and still building other elements to the sites around some of these really helpful titbits you keep feeding us, of course, like you Judges' who keep on reading this blog we are always hungry for more. Please use the contact us form for any feedback you wish to continue sending in. We love to hear from you.

Well what else is going down on the streets we hear you ask?. Well, at the moment our eyes are peeled for the next BIG thing, and so this time the Fashion pack takes us over the pond to the Big Apple. Yup, 'pardner' you got it, its another crazy yellow taxi riding (no Danny Devito unfortunately), Prozac ridden chain smoking New York fashion week; I hear you asking what the hell do you Judges' keep on going on about fashion weeks for...well, when looking for who to stock, we like to know the whole look, not just the sunglasses.

So, New York fashion week, what's it all about we hear you cry!. Apart from the glut of the fashion world Anna Wintourn and of course some of the biggest names known to the fashion world. Our American counterparts are responsible for single handedly creating our obsession with Branding and creating some of the worlds most well known superbrands.

America also has a more conservative and classier side which reflects back to it's glamourous Hollywood era of yesteryear. On www.sendoptics.com we currently have two major players in the sunglasses/optics market, these being Oliver Peoples and Tom Ford. Oliver Peoples we have been referring to in the past, so we thought we would give you some bitesize pieces of information.

Oliver Peoples - The L.A. based company is famous for its timeless collection of sunglasses. The company has a massive archive of frames ranging from early 20th century onwards which it uses as reference to all its collections. Oliver Peoples began life in 1986 on Sunset Boulevard selling American vintage sunglasses but they soon began designing for the present with a strong nod to the past for inspiration. The company has a strong anti-branding image and believes in subtlety and quality.

High points for Oliver Peoples collections are the round 1950's optics/sunglasses range and the square aviator. The round shapes from the 50's is bang on trend for this year so Judges' check out...model Sheldrake

Tom Ford - Last year saw a massive leap into the limelight for Tom with his directional debut being praised to high heavens. Tom Ford reinvented the Gucci label and placed it firmly back on the map. Tom Ford is world renowned for his minimalist approach to fashion and again does not believe in the heavy branding that so many of the American Designers believe is a staple of their ethos.

His sunglasses are recognisable by the innovative 'T' hinge and the Tom Ford name is only visible behind your ears. Like his clothing the sunglasses are coverted by the fashion world and celebrities alike. E.G. the iconic Jennifer

So for you Judges' who did not know much about Oliver Peoples and Tom Ford we hope you know them a little more. Both labels are classic and contemporary with an ultra luxury feel and highly innovative little finishes.

Keep the peeled,

The Judge.
